Well aren’t we lucky – the market is back on, there are lots of green things a-happening, the sun will be shining (16 degrees apparently, I’m dubious!) and now we have some entertainment listings to get you back into the spirit of Levy for our grand return! These acts all come courtesy of Leonard Skully Records, one of the brains behind the Kraak space in the Northern Quarter and a collaborator on our new project there.
They’ve called the whole shebang the The Fantastic Musical Cure-all Remedy Tent and set up an event on Facebook – join for fun and previews! Listings as follows – enjoy some Levy sunshine music for the first time this year!
12.15pm – 12.40pm: Chloe San
Chole is from France and her music has some of the classic lilt and melody we commonly associate with the best of their sixties output. Gentle, relaxing but also surprising and eerie like a barely recalled Summer
1.00pm – 1.35pm: The Jungfraus
The Jungfraus are a hotly tipped psychedelic pop outfit from Manchester. Lead by the charismatic song writing duo of Mick Kenyon and Joe Levi. Their sound has drawn comparisons to everyone from Love, The Byrds and early Barrett-era Floyd to the Brian Jonestown Massacre and Super Furry Animals. Their songs are classic and catchy as they are melodic and intriguing.
2.10pm – 2.45pm: Politburo
“The band tightrope-walk a line between bucolic whimsy and a tougher willingness to forge ahead with noisey bursts, fuzz guitar and obscured sounds. At the heart of each song is a melodic sense that recalls the heady days of Kevin Ayers-era Soft Machine or mid period Gorkys. Peel back the layers and each component of every track seems expertly placed and a joy unto itself” (Rough Trade)
3.15pm – 3.50pm: The Bear Around Your Neck
The Bear Around Your Neck is Nathaniel Scott, a wandering troubadour of the old school variety, whose music reminds one of Man Who Sold The World era Bowie, Radiohead and something more difficult to put one’s finger on: namely his own brand of idiosyncratic guitar talent.
