OK it’s celebration time! Forget the Coronation, move over Eurovision – we turn ten this year and we’re putting on a birthday weekender and you’re all invited!
We’ve got not one, but two, special markets packed with fun and friendly faces so why not join us and celebrate your local community market hitting the grand old age of ten!
We kick off with a Friday Night Market on 16th June and continue the fun into the next day on Saturday 17th June. Over the two days we’ll transform Levenshulme Train Station Car Park into a buzzing birthday bash. We’ll have live music and DJs including market faves Sophie Sveinsson, Darz & Levenshulme Choir. Our popular 5 minute portraits make a return. Take a seat and get sketched by the likes of artists Gemma Parker and Laurie Pink. The kids can get their faces painted by Manchester Face Painting by Anna and we might even add some glitter to proceedings. We’ll be hosting a Market Dog Show so you’ll be able to enter your prettiest pooch with the waggiest tail (cancelled due to the high temperatures) and we have a fabulous stilt walking performance from Hula Hula Fun to kick-off the festival vibe! Oh and of course there will be cake!
We’ll also be doing some birthday collaborations with local businesses. Ventile Brew Co will be knocking up a birthday beer for us. Dave, behind the brewery, was one of the recipients of our Levenshulme Market Fund back in 2015 when he first started brewing beer. And Manchester institution Gingers will be churning up a birthday ice cream for the occasion. We’ve worked with Claire from Gingers since the beginning so a special scoop was at the top of our list – look out for the votes to open soon on your birthday flavour of choice.
Plus we’ll have the usual super selection of independent traders. And do keep your eyes peeled for a few old Levy faves from over the years too! We’ll be welcoming back the likes of Cibus, What’s Your Beef and others!
As a volunteer-led social enterprise we’re super proud that we’ve made it to ten years of trading and continue to provide a welcoming and supportive space for loads of independent artisans, makers, performers and businesses to trade every week here in Levenshulme. This birthday bash will be a chance to come together and celebrate our amazing community and the people that have kept us going, with smiles on their faces, whatever the weather. We couldn’t have done it without you!
